Three day International Seminar on 'Migration of Labour: Socio Economic and Legal Perspectives'
In association with VVGiri National Labour Institute, Noida, Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Chennai and Police Department, Kerala State, Govt Law College Thiruvananthapuram organized an International seminar on 'Migration of Labour: Socio Economic and Legal Perspectives' from 9th to11th march 2013.

Pre- Marriage Orientation Programme was conducted on 15th Nov, 2012. Smt. Sreelekha IPS, Addl.Director General of Police (Vigilence & Anti-corruption Bureau) and Dr. Justin Padamadan, Clinical Psychologist tool classes for the final year students.

Lecture on 'Legal Profession- Need and Scope' by Sri. Jayachandran, Hon'ble District Judge, Thiruvananthapuram was held on 15th December 2012. 

Report  of the Seminar on Current Legal Topics  5-6 November 2013

We, the Principal, Staff  and Students   of Govt Law College , Thiruvananthapuram  organized    a  Seminar on  Current Legal Topics   so  as to enable  the participants  to update their knowledge  and interact with  expert academicians  and administrators at the Govt Law College Auditorium. Dr. N.Veeramanikantan Pro Vice -Chancellor ,Kerala University inaugurated   the Programme. On that occasion Miss Maneka Nair  the first rank holder of LL.B ( 5year Course )2013  will be given a gold medal instituted by  PTA  of Govt. Law College. Sri. R.Bijukuar  Associate Professor, Sri.  N. L. Sajikumar  Asst Professor  Sri. Hareendran,  Asst Professor and the students of law co-ordinated  the Programme.  Compering   was done by  Miss Keerthi   of 9th Sem. 5Year    and Dhanya  .Y.  of 5th Sem. 5 year. Dr. Raju  Narayanaswamy IAS who agreed to handle the first session  was absent and hence the session was handled by Dr. A. Prasanna, Principal  of the institution handled the session.  The  second session was  effectively handled by  Smt.Lida Jacob I AS (Rtd)Former Advisor to Gender and Child Protection who spoke on Laws on Protection of  Women .The  talk was extremely useful  to understand the problems involved in the implementation   of   Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act  2005  in  Kerala.The session was followed by lunch break. In the afternoon , the first session was on Cyber law  and  Cyber  Security. Shri. N.Vinayakumaran Nair, AC, Hitech Cell, Police Head Quarters,Thiruvananthapuram made  the excellent presentation on the topic. The   talk was  appreciated by participants especially  by users of computer and internet as useful to protect themselves  from the criminals of cyberspace.His session  was followed by  the presentation made by  Sri. Nabeel Koya, Scientist from C-DAC, Vellayambalam,  Thiruvananthapuram  on E-Contracts and Digital Signature  which is the  most relevant topic   of today for lawyers, law teachers and  government employees.

The second day of the seminar 6th November  started with the talk on Laws on Road Safety presented by Shri. Rishi Raj Singh IPS, Transport Commissioner, Kerala Motor Vehicles Department.The participants  were enthusiastic and  and asked many questions  and cleared their doubts on road safety. The  second  session on 6th November   was  on Alternate Dispute Resolution presented  by Dr.  S. Sreekumar , Senior Advocate & Notary Public and  the Academic Director of  Dr. Ambedkar Global Law Institute, Tirupathi. The relevance and utility  of  mediation   and the advantages of  Lok Adalaths   were discussed in detail and the participants were happy with the useful talk. In the afternoon   the first presentation was on  Criminal Law Amendments 2013  made  by  Dr. Abdul  Azeez, HOD, Police Academy  Trissur.He elaborately dealt with the  2013 amendments in the Indian Penal Code.  In the  second  session  Dr. Alexander Jacob IPS DGP( Prisons & Correctional Services), Thiruvananthapuram. made the landmark presentation  on Prison Reforms. The Valedictory Address  was made by Dr. Niveditha  P Haran I AS , Additional Chief Secretary and Director General, IMG.Tvpm. She spoke on many topics of current legal significance. Relevance of moral principles in a society, lack of  role models  for people, problems  of women, problems of  land management  and environmental protection  are  the important areas highlighted by her in the excellent  speech .The  two days seminar   enabled   the participants  to update their knowledge in different  areas of law  and was an eye opener regarding  the problems involved in the  implementation   of  law . The efficient administrators and police officers who interacted with the participants  gave   a  new enthusiasm  to the students and teachers of law to view law in action with the correct perspective.
